The Best Types Of Perennials For Beautiful Spring Planters
Fall planting gives perennials a head start over those established in spring. Fewer insects are around to torment or damage plants in the fall. As well, autumn soil still holds heat from lovely summer days, and, during temperate fall days and nights, perennials can set down strong, healthy roots before frost arrives. By spring, root systems will be firmly established, and top growth will be vigorous and healthy.
How to Grow Plants in Garden Planters
Garden planters allow you to enjoy plants in areas where a traditional garden is awkward or impossible. In my tiny backyard, I grow nearly everything in containers, at least while the plant and I are deciding whether we like each other. Growing plants in planters allows you to provide the right conditions for different plants. Practically any type of garden planters can be used to grow plants as long as it holds soil, can drain water, and is large enough for the plant you're growing. They are available in a wide range of materials and styles to match the style of the house, garden, or planting scheme. Take into account the mature size of the plants and their growing habits. Ideally, the pot should have a diameter equal to 1/3 to 1/2 the height of the plant.
Build a Rustic Bench by Recycling an Old Window
Step-by-Step Guide Creating Furniture with Cast-Off Windows - Create the bench seat. Measure the bottom edge of the window. This will be the length for your bench. Cut two-3/4 inch thick boards the length of your bench by approximately 7 inches wide, for the seat. Be thrifty and use scrap wood if you have it. The bench will be painted and will hide any irregularities. Lay the boards side-by-side to measure 14 inches wide. Cut three-1x4's, 14 inches long, for the seat braces. Place one brace on top and across each end of the seat boards and one across the middle. Drill pilot holes with a small drill bit through the braces and into the seat boards. Attach the braces to the seat with 1 1/4 inch wood screws in each of the pilot holes.
How to Grow Ornamental Grasses
Ornamental grasses have become extremely popular in the past ten years or so, and if you buy them at a garden center they are kind of pricey. Learning how to grow them yourself is actually quite easy. They can be grown from seed, but I won’t pretend to be an expert at that for several reasons. One, I don’t know anything about growing them from seed, and two, I have no desire to propagate them from seed because seedlings require too much care.

Most of the country is now under the influence of the hottest part of the year - even here in normally cooler north Idaho, temperatures have risen into the nineties for over a week. The Life Cycle of the Tree
A tree’s life cycle begins with germination. An adult tree will drop a seed to the ground, usually in fall or winter, and the seed will lie dormant until spring. When the conditions are right, the dormant seed will start to receive warmth, water, sunlight and oxygen. This will spark the growth of the baby tree embryo and begin its life cycle. The baby tree will sprout a root, which will instinctively seek out groundwater. If it finds it, the root will then become submerged in the earth. As it takes root, a stem will sprout up towards the sun, usually carrying the seed casing with it, up into the air.
Understanding When to Plant Baby Trees
Fall or winter time is a great time to think about planting baby trees. Most trees survive better if they are planted or transplanted while they are dormant. If you have baby trees, they may even look dead during this time. A small scratch on the bark of the tree should epose a green layer, reassuring you that the tree is, in fact, alive, but in a dormant state. Trees enter a dormant state when the days shorten and sunlight is in short supply. They need to stop growing and producing during the fall in order to store energy and prepare themselves for winter. When you are taking care of your baby tree, keep this in mind.

How to Get Rid of Snakes Naturally and Organically
Very few people can encounter a snake in their home or yard without a sense of panic. Even when you know the snake is not dangerous, most don't want snakes around while they are trying to live in their home or work in their gardens cause of the fear of snake bites. While some snakes can be beneficial as they eat rodents in the garden like a garter snake, most people who see them are enough of an expert to know what a beneficial versus a dangerous snake is so they want to get rid of the snakes they see.
