How to Choose the Best Safety Pool Fences

by Bonnie Phillips on Sep 21, 2020

Swimming pools are a source of family fun and exciting parties. But safety should always be a priority when having one in the house especially when there are kids in the family. Here are some helpful tips on how to choose the right safety pool fences.

1.Do you really need safety pool fences?

Yes. A safety pool fence is a type of fence or barrier placed around a swimming pool to prevent the access of small children. This must have a gate that should be kept closed when the adult homeowner or the kid’s guardian is not around.

To prevent injuries and drowning as well as unattended use of the pool by kids and strangers, safety pool fences are ideal to be constructed or installed surrounding the pool. Besides reducing accidents, these fences can give you peace of mind and useful, affordable investment.

2.Follow your state’s fence laws, if applicable.

Some states require safety pool fences or pool barrier, or a pool cover. Some are very specific, such as how high it should be, an alarm should be included with the fence, or that it must have a self closing pool fence gate. Some local governments may also have laws that require residential pools to have some kind of pool barrier.

Check your state law or local law to make sure that you are installing the right pool fence. Note that public pools and spas also have different requirements.

3.Pool fencing may be required by your homeowner’s insurance provider.

Some insurance agencies may require you to install safety pool fences. They require this because it reduces the possibility of liability claims from accidents on the pool. If an insurer or homeowner does not follow this, any resulting cost coming from pool injuries or accidents will be the homeowner’s own expense.

4.The cost of your pool fence depends on the type of fence you want to build or install.

If your budget is limited, you can choose either wooden or tubular fences. These options do not cost much compared to other material options, such as vinyl, steel, glass panels, wrought iron, and aluminum. Whatever you choose, your safety pool fence should be installed by professionals.

Related to this is the color or design of your safety pool fences. Choose the color that best fits or complements your outdoor color, landscape design, or overall house design.

5.Consider the maintenance needs of your safety pool fences.

Besides aesthetic appeal, make sure that you can handle maintaining the cleanliness, use, and quality of your pool fence. If this is not a problem to you and you have someone to handle this house chore, a metal or glass pool fencing could work for you since either require regular cleaning or washing.

Wooden pool fence may require repainting or replacement every few years. Vinyl fences may simply require washing from time to time while brick or tubular pool fences only need minimal repairs.

6.Choose the right safety pool fence company.

Upon considering all mentioned above, the actual installation or construction should be from a professional safety pool fence company to make sure that you get a durable, aesthetic, and truly secure fence.
