Creating a Modern Bedroom
by Guest Post on Jan 22, 2010
Do you want a modern bedroom but do not know where to begin with all of the options available? That is a common stumbling block that most individuals face when planning this design.
First, it is important to understand that this design originated in major city loft apartments and spaces that have been converted from old warehouse buildings. Taking that into consideration it will make your planning process much easier.
When planning your modern bedroom design focus on the clean lines and exposed brick that is usually found in old warehouses or loft apartments. One very popular aspect of this design is using metal; beds are a great way to bring this material into your room since the bed is usually the largest piece of furniture in the space and considered the focal point.
Using Loft Bunk Beds in the Bedroom
Depending on the size of your bedroom loft bunk beds might be an option to consider. Loft bunk beds come in two separate pieces and there are many different combinations available depending on your individual needs. Some of the available options are two twin beds set perpendicular to each other; a bed and a desk; a bed and dresser combination; and two beds plus a dresser combination. While there are many combinations to consider they also come in many different designs and materials. This is a great way to pull off your modern bedroom style while still saving space in a small area.
Choosing Modern Beds for the Bedroom
When looking for modern beds an option to consider is a platform bed. These are gaining popularity not only because of their beauty and simplicity, but they are also very cost-effective. Platform beds are cost-effective because they do not require an entire mattress set; the platform itself acts as the box springs. Also, the bed itself is usually much less expensive than a traditional bed even when combined within a set.
While metal beds are very popular where materials are concerned modern beds also can come in other materials such as dark or lacquered woods. The key to modern beds is the quality of materials and very simple and understated design.
It is also important to choose the perfect modern lighting. When it comes to modern lighting incorporating interesting shapes and colors sets off the room. Also adding a few accessories that have an abstract form such as blown glass will set off this style of a room.
When working with a modern design it is important that form follows function. This design will encourage the use of some accessories; however, clutter needs to be avoided. Clean lines and neutral background tones that are offset with bright colors and abstract designs that are brought in through accessories and lighting are what sets this style apart from other popular designs.
Even though bright colors are encouraged the overall feel of the room needs to be comfortable and inviting. Have fun with color when using this style; this one of the few designs where unusual choices enhance the overall feel of the room, so let your imagination run wild.
