Top Tips When Choosing Houseplants for Your Home
by Nick Marr on Apr 5, 2021
Your home is your castle. It’s somewhere you can relax, unwind, and be yourself. In the modern digital world, this is becoming increasingly important as it can be hard to disconnect. In short, your home is more than just your safe place, it’s somewhere you can enjoy your downtime and do the things that appeal to you.
The great news is that you don’t need to spend a fortune on décor to get this relaxing effect. In fact, you simply need to find a comfortable chair and indulge in some houseplants!
It’s surprising, but houseplants will purify the air, improving your health and decreasing issues with allergies. Plants can also make you feel more positive. This is because they are colorful and they bring nature inside your home.
Consider this, it’s hard not to feel relaxed walking through a picturesque garden. Having houseplants has the same effect. All you have to do is choose the right ones.
Consider The Space
Plants come in all shapes and sizes, you need to consider how much space you have for plants. This will help to define how many you get. For example, if space is tight then a window box can handle several small plants. You would be best choosing something like Aloe Vera or perhaps some houseleeks. They are colorful and fairly small.
Maintenance Concerns
You need to consider how much time you have at home to spend looking after your plants, especially if you don’t generally love the thought of gardening. A good choice for someone who wants an easy-to-care-for plant is the Chinese money plant.
It has bright green leaves, shaped a little like a pancake and it looks after itself. They are difficult to kill, slow-growing, and look great. But, you don’t often find them in nurseries and garden centers. That’s why you need to check for them online.
Check The Plant Conditions
Most plants don’t need a lot, a little sunlight, water occasionally, and perhaps the occasional food. However, some plants prefer warmer climates and others prefer colder ones. You should consider this and how warm your house generally is, before you decide which plant to purchase.
One At A Time
The secret to successfully adding plants to your home is to take it slow. Choose just one that you like and see how easy it is to look after. Once you’re happy with your first plant you can slowly increase your collection. Before long you’ll have plenty of plants and green fingers!
Don’t Forget the Pot
You can get all sorts of pots for your plants, from biodegradable ones to classic china pots. It can be difficult to choose but it doesn’t need to be. Simply select the pot that goes with your décor. This will help to ensure the focus is on the plant and not how well the pot stands out!
Don’t forget, there is no right or wrong plant for your home, it’s what you like and are happy to look after.
