Clever Home Theatre Seating Design Features You Need to Know
by Martyn Weber on Sep 26, 2019
Designing custom home cinema seating takes your home movie theatre from good to amazing. Make a few changes to have the perfect, most luxurious seats in the house.
When it comes to a home cinema, a lot of focus goes on technology and gadgets. While the sound system and screen are a central piece of the puzzle, so too is the seating. Because if you get the seating wrong, that extra $10k you spent on the best speakers is wasted.
When it’s a customized experience, you can (and should) be choosing the seating to match the needs of the various members of the family who will be enjoying the at-home cinema experience. There is a wide array of choices available today, in terms of the style, design, material, and add-ons of the seating you can install for a luxurious and comfortable home theatre experience with the perfect home cinema seating.
Comfort is key - and customizable
Whether you are turning your basement space or your living room into your home theatre, one of the key requirements is comfortable seating. It means you and the rest of the family can settle into “your” seats with no arguments. Choosing the right seating goes beyond just the length, width, and breadth of the seats, although these are key considerations.
There are many innovative designs out there that can be customized for your particular needs. This means that someone who is extra tall and in need of more legroom or a longer seat can still be comfortable. Or maybe someone who has back issues and can’t sit for too long can still find the perfect home cinema seating solution and be able to enjoy movie nights. Once you’ve configured your seating and understand how many chairs you can have in the room you can start with the customization of the chair itself.
Find the right seating structure
One size does not fit all, and you can get custom work done on the seating for your home theatre. Fortress and Jaymar are two brands that will individualize and create the physical elements of the seating to meet client specifications – which means you really can have the seating of your dreams installed.
Think about the color of the fabric, and choose neutrals. Bright colors can reflect off the screen and change what you see. And what type of fabrics do you like? Leather? Suede?
Choose between electric or manual reclining options. Electric recliners can stop at any point, and are silent and easy for even the young and old to operate.
What height seats do you want? There will be rows of tiered seating, so you need to account for that with ceiling height. Consider making the seats lower to give an illusion of space.
Do you want a cup holder for your drink, and would you prefer it illuminated? Or maybe even a specific wineglass holder. What about a tray table for your snacks, or a tablet holder?
The home theatre chairs themselves can have longer or shorter backs, different types of backrests, a variety of chair layouts, different head rests, and varying levels of plushness. Whatever your body shape or unique needs, spend a little extra to get a super comfortable experience. Because spending 100k on the screen and audio means nothing if you’re not comfortable watching it.
