How to Replace a Fill Valve in Your Toilet
by Alan Reid on Aug 23, 2017
- Shut off the water at the supply, turn the handle clockwise to the right until tight
- Drain water in the tank down toilet, I recommend using a shop vac to vacuum out the remaining water on the bottom to prevent a mess
- Remove braided hose feeding fill valve, this should only be hand tight
- Remove the nut/s that secures the new valve to the toilet with channel locks
- Install the new valve, make sure rubber seal is on the inside of the tank, tighten the nut with channel locks
- Tighten braided hose onto valve hand tight
- Turn water back on slowly, place a plastic tube in tank center
- Check height of water and valve operation, flush a few times to make sure it is operating properly
- Your new valve is now installed in less than 10 minutes
