How to Replace a Fill Valve in Your Toilet

by Alan Reid on Aug 23, 2017

  1. Shut off the water at the supply, turn the handle clockwise to the right until tight
  2. Drain water in the tank down toilet, I recommend using a shop vac to vacuum out the remaining water on the bottom to prevent a mess
  3. Remove braided hose feeding fill valve, this should only be hand tight
  4. Remove the nut/s that secures the new valve to the toilet with channel locks
  5. Install the new valve, make sure rubber seal is on the inside of the tank, tighten the nut with channel locks
  6. Tighten braided hose onto valve hand tight
  7. Turn water back on slowly, place a plastic tube in tank center
  8. Check height of water and valve operation, flush a few times to make sure it is operating properly
  9. Your new valve is now installed in less than 10 minutes
