Importance and Benefits of Placing an Underlay before Laying a Carpet
by Guest Post on Oct 15, 2012
According to most home inspectors, the underlay is fast becoming a crucial necessity that should be placed before laying the carpet. This is mainly because of its importance and benefits to homeowners. In the recent past, its popularity in the market has been rising every day due to the crucial roles that it plays, once installed.
Definition of the underlay
This is a thick pad that is normally placed under the floor and then tacked down securely. After this has been done, the carpet is laid on top of it to achieve various objectives as explained below.
Benefits and importance of the underlay
Sound insulator
If you live in a story building, then you know how irritating it is to hear the noise that normally penetrates from the ceiling to the rooms below. This might be as a result of heavy footsteps or any other impact on the floor. However, with the installation of the underlay, the noise is reduced significantly.
Heat insulator
Once the underlay has been installed, it acts as a heat insulator. In such a home, the effects of cold weather conditions are rarely felt. This is mainly because the underlay helps in retaining heat in that particular room thus making it warm, despite the weather conditions outside the house. As a matter of fact, with the right underlay, you will be able to cut down on the heating costs of your house.
Shock absorber
The underlay is also important for your home especially if you have kids. In most cases, kids normally love playing on the carpet and at times, they might trip and fall. When this happens, the chances of getting injuries are very low because the underlay acts as a shock absorber. The same comfort is still suitable for you especially if you love lying on the carpet as you enjoy your favorite novel or even interacting with your kids.
Maintaining the shape of your carpet
Additionally, the underlay is also very important especially when you buy cheap carpets that are not heavy enough to hold the weight when people walk on thh3. At one point in your life, you may have come across those types of carpets that normally succumb to the weight inserted by human beings or furniture. For such carpets, they normally change their shape and appearance whenever a particular weight has been introduced on thh3. To avoid such instances, the underlay comes in handy to help the carpet regain its original shape by making it bounce back after the weight has been released.
Dust-trap
The underlay also helps in protecting the carpet against dust. When you lay a carpet on a dusty floor, it normally traps the dust and as a result, it rh3ains dirty. This means that you will have to spend a lot of money regularly just to secure the services of professional carpet cleaning services. However, to avoid all these expenses, you just need to install the underlay and your carpet will rh3ain dust-free throughout unless dirt is introduced from the upper part where the underlay does not cover. Besides, the prevention of dust means that your kids, pets and the entire family will be safe from related diseases, therefore, keeping thh3 healthy all the time.
